Due to the Founders Day's change of date to possibly end of year or just before the commencement of GCE O level, Secondary 4's members will be excused from practices for the rest of the year. But, if you wish to do your last part for the CO, all Secondary 4 members are welcome to join the orchestra for practice voluntarily. Use the time wisely and good luck for your examinations.

P.S. In the upcoming EXCO Election, attendance is compulsory for all ( inclusive of secondary 4 members). Secondary 4 members who holds posts, be prepared to be called back for an additional meeting.

Um, actually I am quite nervous here…

My name is Jun Wei, Vice-President of MSHSCO in 2006/2007. My batch went through our first public performance in 2004, SYF in 2005, second public performance in 2006 and SYF in 2007. It was very hectic but we enjoyed every moment of learning something new.

Anyway, being an EXCO was really a tough job for my batch in 2006.2007, in fact, one of the toughest one can consider. And later on, Melvin took the baton and now you guys are continuing the legacy.

It takes time to be mature and sensible enough to understand and appreciate the true meaning “What should I really do? And what should I not do?”

I was well known for being “naggy” simply because I was trying to convey something that none could understand. Although every one eventually understood that I was trying to tell them what we should really be doing by the time it was already too late.

A moment of ego, I became a VP in 2006. A moment of pressure, I wanted to give up. A moment of determination, I pressed on. And I eventually realized the true meaning of achievement.

It is your attitude, not your amplitude, which determines your altitude.

Your attitude towards the things that you do determines how high you can climb. I really hope that you all are working hard both individually and together as a group. And I am so glad to hear from CY that the school has been very supportive towards MSHSCO. So, please take this opportunity to show the school and prove to them that MSHSCO has always been working hard. And also, show the judges that you all deserve the Gold Medal.

Do not achieve something blindly. And “all talk no action” is as good as being an empty vessel making the most noise.

You want it? Then don’t say it…

Show that you deserve it.

And it will definitely be yours.

Because, no pain…

No gain…

Hey guys Chew Bing Hong Signing in again.

Sorry for the late posting. I was already dead tired for the past few days.

Alright here i go. Tuesday's practice was good. Everything's coming into place. Im really grateful that mr yang could come on tuesday night to settle the suona problem. Kenjyi, Jiejun and Qi Hui, this goes to you. Thank you for putting in some effort. I know it's not your fault that you've been playing like shit for the past like 1000 years but now that it's settled, please continue to strive. I have faith in the three of you.

Thursday's practice was a bomb. The only thing left to do is to INJECT SOME COURAGE HORMONES INTO MOSES! AND SOME WRIST POWER OR SOME SORT. ONCE YOU"RE UP AND READY, WE CAN GO STEADY LIAO! Oh ya and of course Qu Di peeps are not really in tune anyway. Work on these. We're getting better and better. Haha it's funny to think that MSCO is always at their best when it's so near to the competition, but who the hell cares? As long as you're good, HAHA we clinch Mr.Goldy and we're back home cheering our hearts out.

Yeah we know we haven't been good but we're already trying to make this SYF as perfect as possible. Sorry for being like an idiot who does nothing but try to increase the number of practices, but im just trying to do everything i can with my power.

You guys can do it man. It's everything or nothing now. i don care what you do to prepare, but.. Yeah the heats on. We're gonna see whether any other teams would be getting their GOLD with RGS. And of course, with us.

Hey all!! Im more of a writing/typing person than a verbal one... so...

Congratulations!!! Haha today's practice was really a fruitful one! The songs that we played are no longer what i called "funeral songs" but lively!! Haha really starting to feel that each and every one of us is making that effort for this co. The practice after the break was exeptionall well done! Dont know if its because Mr Chew said "if its done well, i will let you all go early" or that the suona people are back in FULL POWER!!!

They totally amazed me, the suona peeps. Thank you for your hard work! You all rock my socks! Dont know if its the teacher is good, or as jie jun said, "is because we are talented" LOL! Anyway keep up the good work! Other than the suona people, I was blown off by some of the members from other sections too! A few members that i thought would not do so well, improved dramatically. I took notice of that and asked your senior to praise you all. But the praises are definitely real! Overall, the whole co is moving towards... THE GOAL IN OUR HEART!

Here are things members are to take note:

please try to smile more during performances. Some of you, when playing, your face look so gloomy! Like you feel like killing someone!
when i wrote the announcement, i meant close your mouth during performance. Not shut up, althought its also good for you to shut up. Especially the xian yue people, from my view almost everyone of you have your mouth wide open while waiting for your turn to play in the music.
Enjoy the music. FUSE WITH IT!! Hehehe :P

I am starting to fall in love with this CO once again!! We make a big family that every individual is important to us! Love you all!

Hi CHew Bing Hong here. 2nd post...

Guys this is it. 9 days more. It's take it or beat it. I really pray that god will see us through this competition. We really can get gold this time. Suona section, it's all up to you. Once you're up and ready, we're all getting our well-deserved Gold. Seriously. Lao Zhou's getting down another suona teacher for you all on tuesday so PLEASE PLEASE, it's our last resort. I know it's abit too late, but if it will help, we will pay any price for you 3 to improve. I hope you all can work hard just for this very very last week.

Same goes to the rest of you. All we are left with is the harmony of all the sections. Yesterday, in the morning, it was really good. I was quite touched by the song. The suona wasn't that bad in the morning. everything came out right, except for abit of yin zhun problem. Take every practice seriously. it's our last few days as a whole CO before me and the rest of the sec4s leave.

Make a mark on the "TOP SECONDARY COs" list MSCO! We can bring change to how people see us. Their opinions don't matter. It's all up to us, MSCO 2009.

Hey there everyone. This is the first time( YES IT IS THE FIRST TIME) im posting on this blog.

Hey today's 24/3/09, tuesday. I am very happy with your performance today!(except for those suonas: but work harder dudes, i know you can do it!) I can see all of you putting in some effort.

We only have one month left. Some say that it ain't enough for us to boost our standards to a GOLD, but i truly believe that all of you are talented and hardworking musicians who have a utmost potential to achieve our main aim. WE CAN ACHIEVE! Thats what we're supposed to do since the day you joined this particular CCA. Many of you have low confidence now, but let me tell you. HAVE FAITH IN US. HAVE FAITH in ALL of us. We will acheive this together.

I know it'll be hard on you guys when you are asked to attend every practice we arrange for you guys. I just want you all to understand, and think of the fruits of your hardwork. You will NEVER regret if we ever achieved our aim. It's been too long, CO. When will it be our time to shine ? When will it be our time to be one of the niche CCAs in MSHS? When will we gain recognition by the school and get everything we want?

We can promise you almost everything, Maris Stella High School Chinese Orchestra. If we achieve GOLD, we can promise you almost everything you need, from instruments all the way to instructors, our own room. Prestige of the orchestra will be yours for the taking. Disciplinary matters

Sorry all. But the date to syf is getting nearer. I will step up the discilinary actions. So do not blame me for being harsh or what so ever. As long as rules and regulations is not fulfilled, do expect a harsh punishment from me. So i wont accept any excuses or so e.g. i forgot. This are excuses. I wan a reason if you are unable to turn up for practices or when you are late for practice.

Last reminder.

1. NO participation of sports or such activities 30minutes before the commence of co practice

2. Commencement of co practice is inclusive of the 15mins buffer time. e.g if you are told co practice starts at 3.30 reach at 3.15.

3. For every practice, 10mins to arrange chairs in preparation to starting of practice and 10mins to pack up after every practice, sit and await commencement of bebrief.

4. Listen to your EXCO and SL. Their words are absoulte to you during co times. Do not argue back. If you feel that you are scolded for something orthat you think you have not done wrong. Approach me or the teacher-in-charge.

5. Keep noise to minimum during practice. Do not always use the time when mr chew stop to think to make noise.

ANY VIOLATION of the above will be SEVERLY dealt with. Thank you for your cooperation.

There will be extra practice for those who have been contacted by the exo members. This extra practice is in hope to help those who are weaker, or those who the exco and sl feel should come for this extra practice. In case you are confused, tan bo yue, percussion and sheng is to come on thursday 5th march 3.30pm at music room. The others are to go on wednesday 4th march 2.30pm. For those who have this extra practice on wednesday 4th march. Please take note, i will obersve your performance on wednesday. If i find that it is no good, i am sorry but i have to make you all come back on thursday too. And please be reminded to bring your own instrument. Those who do not, face the consequences. Everyone is contacted so i dont expect any1 to tell me they do not know. IF you have not been contacted, it most probably mean that you dont not need to come. BUT if you are committed enough and enthusiastic about co. Feel free to join in. Those who are unable to turn up. Please give me a very valid reason. Thank you.

hi guys! this is my first post in dunno how many years liao. haha so long never use blogger, suddenly use then find it very weird. anywayy i entered blogger to post 'cos i was trying to print something out for CHINESE.. haha

anywayy now is the CA1 period for sec1s - sec3s (HAHA SEC4S DONT HAVE CA1! NENENIBOOBOO~), so all of you must jiayou! especially the sec3s, when you just "upgraded" from sec2 to sec3. dont be so disheartened if you do badly for your CA1. the main thing now is to adapt to sec3 life, where everything is very hectic. yes, i understand the busy schedule, so i have been trying not to add practice in lieu of the SYF '09. although SYF '09 is important, but your academics are equally important as well (BUT that doesnt give you the excuse to skip practices!). but scoring those A1's come from that extra effort. and this period is also crucial, 'cos the EXCO + teachers I/C choosing the EXCO '09/10. *hints*

as for sec4s, this is your last few months in CO now. please treasure your last moments in CO before all of you step down, 'cos i can see the bond all of you have towards CO (though some of you may deny). i promise to try to make CO a more fun and better place to be in, but all of you also have to co-operate with the EXCO. we wouldnt wna spend our last months in CO calling all of you to come for practice. just have the mindset that if you work hard now, get a gold for SYF, then you will be assured of your A1 for your CCA points. then you can study in peace for your O levels without having to worry for your CCA points, or join a 2nd CCA and waste your time.

okk thats all that i have to say. i will try to post something in the near future if i have the time. JIAYOUS EVERYONE! GET THAT ~~GOLD~~ GWH FOR SYF! SHOW EVERYONE THAT WE CAN DO IT! SO THAT WE CAN GET A BETTER CO ROOM (btw most likely we are getting a new CO room, but no promises kae?)! AND BETTER INSTRUMENTS! AND A FEMALE CONDUCTOR! haha

Dear all,

Ok, I heard you! Turns out that some of you are "illiterate" in Chinese (despite the fact that we are a SAP school!), so here I am, posting in English this time!

This has been an incredibly busy weekend, I hardly even have time to update my newsblog, nevertheless, I am keeping to my promise of uploading some of the pictures I took for you guys recently... hope you enjoy them! :)

Dedicating this post to all those who helped in the Chinese New Year Performance on Friday. You all have done a great job as compared to our last CNY Perf as shown from crowd response! Okok here to update..and post about the xi-an exchange thing. Ok la...as all of you should noe by now...we are going to xi-an at the end of the year. 80% of the cost of the trip would be susbsidised by the school, so we would just need to pay 20% of the cost,which would include airfare,food,lodging...etc. Ya. It would be a 2 week trip frm the 10-23 november 2008. Alumuni are welcomed...hahas. I will post more abt it when there is more info avaliable.

And thursday CO, all are to attend. gtg liao. cya. ahaha.

And all those who don't have/lost/spoilt their tuner and metronome are required to buy. The tuner is $50 and metronome is $60. This is from Mr Chew. Compulsary. If you already have both, pls bring on tuesday to show us. And bring the money on tuesday.

hey guys,
About friday's practice, its really not productive , for erhu section that is. We finally have a good teacher and you all still can slack during sectionals. Really disappointed. Still got people tell me can pon CO on tuesday just because of o lvl listening compre. Also got people tell me i dont know the time for pract. Erhu section, buck up.
Cello and bass section was not bad la. In fact, they are the best section in terms of attendance and attitude la. Guan yue's attendance is like the worst now can. The exco will go down hard on those who skip practices without a valid reason. If you all think we are strict, go find out from band what they do to those who skip practices.
And sectionals does not equal to slacking time hor. SYF is not very far away. Tired of repeating myself la. Haiz. I am sure you all also wont like to come for every CO prac to get scolded by the exco.
So work hard for SYF! and of course shangri la performance which is in 13 days! For ensemble that is.
A reminder, nanyang girls co concert is next friday which is elearning day la. Held at singapore conference hall, 7.30pm. So keep yourselves free that day ar.

okkk im so disappointed with you guys yesterday [which is 24 june '08].. firstly, on monday 23 june '08, my vps and i [with yiming] went around ALL the classrooms to inform all of you for practice on tuesday. however we did not manage to achieve a 100% attendance. some refused to come, some sec1s claimed that they did not have to turn up as they had "quitted". once again, let me tell you this, you are still in co unless your name is out of the name list!

secondly, its regarding the sectionals. erhu section, please BUCK UP! let me tell you frankly, you are the weakest section. although attendance is not really a problem for you all, but you all are very slack during practices, orchestra and sectionals. the bro. chanel maths competition is NEXT SATURDAY, 6 JULY 'O8 and you have not mastered a song! that applies to other sections as well. please buck up everyone, let us all show ~~band~~ others that we can do it!

thirdly, all of you take very long to settle down. test your sound etc. reginald was waiting all of you all to get ready! since reginald is considered an alumni now, it is very difficult to let him make time for us to practice with us! so please treasure your time when reginald is here to find the time to practice with us!

i know school just started, everyone feels very sian now.. i can understand how you all feel. but school is school, cca is cca. i hope to make this co a fun co where everyone can relax.. so i hope to see an improvement in everyone xD

hey hey co! :)
ok this is my first post as the president, so please allow me to say a few words..

//firstly, i think that i can get the post of the president was due to the ~~overwhemling~~ votes of those who had voted me. since you all have voted me, i hope that you will all be able to listen and give me utmost respect. i feel that in this way, it will be very crucial for us to make great improvements, in terms of skills and togetherness likewise.

//secondly, it is said that rules at home are meant to be adhered to, rules of the state are meant to be followed. in this co, i feel that there are rules to be adhered to and followed.
1. RESPECT - when anyone is talking (be it mr chew or the exco), please keep quiet. i feel that there should only be one person talking at a time. in this way, we will be able to improve drastically as a co, and of course, you all will be able to go home earlier :D
2. ATTENDANCE - please try not to skip practices, and by the end of this year, i hope to achieve a 100% attendance for msco. by skipping practices, mr chew will start nagging (again!) and hence, will affect the pace at which the co is moving. like what i have said during the speech, our main aim for all of us is of course the SYF competition. since this competition is very important for all of us, affecting the pace and rate at which the co is moving can decide whether we get a gold, silver or bronze for our SYF competition. of course all of you know and want to get a gold for the SYF 2009, i hope that you all will not skip practices with no reason.

//thirdly, i think there is a need to say. in co, i am the president, but outside co, I AM NOT! yar, so outside co, please dont call me president! haha.. and in co, i may be stern and if need be, i would discipline some of you. but outside co, i am still friends with you. this is because of the nature of my job in the exco. so if i scold (or discipline) you in co, it doesnt affect our friendship ok! haha

ok thats all i wanted to say.. remember, stay focused! lets work hard together to get a gold, if not, a GOLD WITH HONOURS for our SYF 2009! jiayous! :D and lets make this co a FUN co! YAY!

p.s. the practice on 3 june was really fabulous. everyone got the scores on the day itself and all of you could sight-read the scores. i was really impressed! keep the the good work! :D

NYCO is having a concert on 18 July 2008 at Singapore Conf Hall. This concert is compulsary for all to go.

PHSCO is having a concert on 10 June 2008 at Republic Poly. They are playing chun jie xu qu, ju hua tai and some christian songs. ya. Those interested go find wei ling for the tickets. ahaha.

RGCO is having a concert at Victoria Concert Hall, 20th july, a sunday, at 5.30pm. Tickets are $10 and $12. They are playing juhuatai, qin wang po zhen yue, tian shan sheng hui and other songs la. Interested can find me. tyty.

Marsling Chinese Orchestra is having a concert at Singapore Conf Hall in december, playing songs like molihua, long de chuan qi, da gui, ABBA, mario and a lot of other modern and big big songs which i cant rmb la. haha. But u all shd go for this..More details wil be posted later! ahaha.
